Guam — an island in the Mariana Islands archipelago in the western Pacific Ocean, an organized unincorporated territory of the United States (a U.S. territory located outside the continental U.S. with a high degree of autonomy), official languages — English and Chamorro, currency — United States dollar (USD).

Since December 10, 1898, after cession by Spain under the Treaty of Paris, Guam has been an organized unincorporated territory of the United States, it was administered by the U.S. Navy until August 1, 1950, when the Organic Act established civilian government and created the Guam Legislature and an elected Governor, while foreign affairs and defense remain the responsibility of the U.S. government.
