Saint Helena — an island in the South Atlantic Ocean, part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, official language — English, currency — Saint Helena pound (SHP).
Until 1 September 2009 the territory was known as Saint Helena and Dependencies. After the entry into force of the Constitution Order its status changed and each of the three island groups was granted equal legal status. Legislative power is exercised by the Legislative Council of Saint Helena. Executive power is held by the Executive Council chaired by the Governor appointed by the British Crown. Foreign affairs and defense remain the responsibility of the UK government.
